The New York University Stern Center for Business and Human Rights has recently released a study that not only blurs the line between legitimate research and outright propaganda — it outright crosses it.

In the wake of the coronavirus lockdowns, we’ve all seen the chilling and Orwellian extent to which the mantle and authority of “science” can be weaponized in pursuit of a political agenda. This “study” only pushes that trend further.

Gaslighting the Public

The study, called “False Allegation: The Unfounded Claim that Social Media Censors Conservatives,” is so insane and divorced from objective reality in its conclusions that it’s difficult to believe anyone could write them down with a straight face.

The study concludes: “The claim of anti-conservative animus is itself a form of disinformation: a falsehood with no reliable evidence to support it.”

As is obvious to anyone who has watched how social media companies behave toward conservative figures and their opinions, this is just gaslighting disguised as scientific research.

If we read further, we find the following thing, which is arguably even crazier: “The question whether social media companies harbor anti-conservative bias can’t be answered conclusively because data available to academic and civil society researchers aren’t sufficiently detailed.”

In short, the study admits that data to support its conclusions don’t exist, but it still declares those conclusions anyway. Even worse, it buries that admission in an obscure corner that no one will read.

Totalitarianism and “Science”

The fact that pseudo-scholarly tripe like this can be draped in the authority of “science” is deeply worrying. As the importance and influence of religion have gradually faded in the West over the last few centuries, science has largely stepped in to fill the void.

We treat our scientists like the medievals used to treat their saints. Anyone who doubts this need only consider the way in which the media has waved incense before the figure of Anthony Fauci since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic — despite the fact that he has contradicted himself and moved the goalposts innumerable times on nearly every important topic pertaining to the pandemic, be it mask-wearing, double-masking, the need for school closures, or the actual lethality of the virus.

Fauci has touted the demonstrably inaccurate Imperial College Model to justify the lockdowns, and WHO had been caught spreading Chinese propaganda about human-to-human-transmission of the virus back in January of 2020. Yet the media reveres them both, and social media companies demonstrably persecute those who question them.

When political incentives contaminate science, they always corrupt it in the end. Science done under political auspices should always be treated with skepticism because political pressure biases the “research” into generating certain results.
