In an appearance on Fox & Friends on Monday, Feb. 8, the sheriff of Virginia’s Frederick County, Chuck Jenkins, voiced his frustration with the Biden administration and unleashed passionate criticism upon it for its policies along the United States-Mexico border.

Sheriff Jenkins Speaks With Steve Doocy

Sheriff Jenkins’ appearance on Fox & Friends involved a discussion with Steve Doocy, one of the show’s hosts. It began with Doocy referring to former President Barack Obama’s deportation policies and the Biden administration’s stated commitment not to follow in those footsteps. Some have called Obama the “deporter-in-chief” because of the high number of deportations that happened during his presidency.

As an aside, however, this claim is extremely misleading. Obama did not deport more people than normal.

He simply redefined what it meant to “deport” someone. Prior to this redefinition, the vast majority of cases involving those who crossed the border illegally would not have even been counted as deportations. The undocumented people were simply caught by ICE and returned to their home countries. Under Obama’s redefinition, all the deportation numbers of his predecessors also greatly increase.

Be that as it may, the Biden administration’s stated policy on immigration is clearly one of extreme laxity. Commenting on this, Sheriff Jenkins said, “This is absolutely outrageous, Steve. Americans should be angry and outraged. What he’s done is effectively and functionally dismantled ICE, basically telling the agents to stand down.”

Doocy then brought up an article from the Washington Post and described how it stated that Biden will not deport people, even if they have provably committed any of a host of serious crimes, including “DUI, assault, money laundering, property crimes, fraud, tax crimes, solicitation” and others.

Jenkins described this as “total lawlessness” and then thundered that “Americans will not be safe. Immigrant communities will not be safe. These types of laws lead to more victims of crime, more violent crime, gangs infiltrating this country.”

When asked to give his thoughts about why he believed the Biden administration was pursuing such a destructive, reckless and careless policy, Jenkins replied, “I believe a part of this is, listen, they’re angry at President Trump.”

Speaking to the Washington Post about the Biden administration’s immigration policy, one ICE official said, “They’ve abolished ICE without abolishing ICE … It literally feels like we’ve gone from the ability to fully enforce our immigration laws to now being told to enforce nothing.”

With a radical policy change like this, it’s no wonder that those like Jenkins believe that immigration law simply will not be enforced going forward and that we will have de facto open borders.
