TJ Ducklo Out as White House Deputy Press Secretary
White House deputy press secretary TJ Ducklo has resigned after a report surfaced regarding his threats against a female reporter. On Friday, Ducklo was suspended without pay for one week from his post in the White House. The suspension came after a story out of Vanity Fair detailed how Ducklo threatened a female reporter who questioned his romantic relationship with another reporter.
Announcement of Resignation
Ducklo’s resignation was announced on Saturday by Jen Psaki, White House press secretary. Psaki said that the decision came with the support of the White House chief of staff. Ducklo also offered his own statement of resignation via Twitter.
History of Dispute
The dispute began when Ducklo refused to answer questions pointed at him regarding the appropriateness of him dating a reporter by the name of Alexi McCammond. Rather than answer the questions about this moral appropriateness, Ducklo accused the questioning reporter, Tara Palmeri, of being jealous of his relationship and of his girlfriend. After a back and forth, Ducklo threatened to “ruin” Palmeri’s reputation.
In addition to the threats, Ducklo also made misogynistic comments to Palmeri, bringing her own personal life into the story.
Potential Conflict of Interest
McCammond is employed by Axios. Axios told Politico that McCammond disclosed her relationship with Ducklo in November. As such, she was moved off the beat covering President Joe Biden because of the perceived conflict of interest. Palmeri rightfully pointed out that McCammond was still covering Vice President Kamala Harris, offering up glowing recommendations of the entire Biden administration after the inauguration.
