On Sunday, February 14, 2021, Mitch McConnell threw conservatives outside the Beltway under the bus when he took to the United States Senate’s floor. During President Trump’s impeachment proceedings, Mitch made a speech that made conservatives across the nation sit with their mouths open, even though the senate minority leader’s comments should come as a surprise to no one.

McConnell Calls Rioters Terrorists

Mitch starts his lengthy speech by calling those who stormed the capital terrorists because they wanted to stop an illegal action by their appointed representatives.

McConnell Says Rioters Fed Falsehoods by Trump

Mitch said that the capitol rioters acted because “they had been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth.”

In other words, he told 75 million voters from his party that their votes did not matter. There is no doubt that those who voted for Trump will not be quiet or going away. Instead, they may very well mount a third-party attempt.

Is it Time for a Third Party?

There have been third-party attempts before, but most were short-lived, but the power of the people beyond the Beltway who honestly have questions about the integrity of the election may not go away this time. Even some, like Stephen Kruiser, who have consistently opposed third-party candidates, think their time may have come. They have always feared this move because it would split conservatives apart and make it easier for Democrats to win.

Mitch fooled many while Trump was in office as they believed that the leader who has been a United States senator since 1985 had grown a spine. That is not the truth as he demonstrated many times during his speech that often seemed to come straight from the Democratic talking points book.
