Pentagon Website Takes a Dive
The official news site and information portal of the Pentagon looks as if it has been hacked by teenage girls trying to generate page views. Following an off-camera press briefing by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, a civilian reporter with the group posted a cringe-worthy article on the official website. The story raised questions regarding the professionalism of those disseminating information from the Pentagon.
For an organization that is supposed to remain apolitical, this story was anything but. The message focused on what Kirby had to say about Fox News host Tucker Carlson on his popular primetime news program.
Critics of Kirby point out that it is not his job as a top-ranking official in the U.S. Department of Defense to offer political commentary about people in the media.
However, it is certainly within the scope of Carlson’s duties to provide that commentary.
About the Author
The author of the controversial piece is Jim Garamone. While many would read the story and believe that he is a rookie reporter, he has actually been reporting at the Pentagon for approximately 35 years.
Precursor of Things to Come?
It should be noted that not all of the articles on the defense.gov website follow this formula. Most other stories are well-written without the overt political tones. However, it may not be long before the rest of the website’s stories follow this method of clickbait articles in order to grab attention and push an agenda. Time will tell if this is a precursor of things to come.
