Abbott Sends Letter to Vice President Asking for Help

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris, demanding that she take action immediately to end what he referred to as a “humanitarian crisis” at the border with Mexico.

Abbott appealed to the human side of Harris, reminding her of the danger of human trafficking present in the current situation at the border.

New Border Czar

President Joe Biden has seemingly put Harris in charge of the mounting immigration crisis. As such, Abbott is referring to Harris as the “Border Czar” in the letter.

In the letter, Abbott told Harris that the policies of the Biden administration are only serving to embolden the dangerous drug cartels.

In addition, human traffickers and smugglers are finding it easier to engage in their criminal operations. It is the children who are smuggled across the border and put into inhumane conditions who are at the greatest risk in this dire situation.

Recent Statistics

Abbott used the official letter to provide detailed statistics about the crisis. According to Abbott, over 11,000 unaccompanied children crossed over the Mexico border into Texas in January and February 2021. In addition, over 18,000 minors are now in federal custody in Texas.

Plea With Harris

The governor pleaded with Harris to make sure that the Biden administration secures the border immediately. In doing so, this will help mitigate the spread of human trafficking while protecting children from abuse.

Abbott also reminded Harris that it is the responsibility of the federal government to address immigration. However, he has still taken it upon himself to crack down on human trafficking across the border that his state shares with Mexico.
