The horrendous humanitarian crisis currently unfolding at the US southern border continues unabated and with no discernible end in sight. Indeed, if anything, indications are that things are only worsening.

According to numbers recently released by United States Customs and Border Protection, the number of migrants who were taken into custody by US officials at the US-Mexico border has reached a twenty-year high.

Despite all of this — despite the horrendous conditions under which the migrants are forced to sleep in detention facilities, despite the fact that they keep flooding in at ever-higher numbers, despite the fact that dangerous and violent drug cartel members are often the ones who are helping them make the journey and despite the fact that many of these migrants have been seen receiving manilla envelopes with cash, documents and instructions in them, indicating that the left has planned for this migrant inflow and is simply using these people to help them change America’s voting demographics — the media and certain politicians continue to deny that the situation is a crisis and insist on loudly and obnoxiously browbeating those who point out the obvious.

CBP Releases Shocking Numbers

According to numbers released by CBP on Thursday, April 8, a grand total of 172,331 people were taken into custody for trying to illegally jump the US southern border in the month of March.

Perhaps even more alarming is the fact that, of these apprehensions, 19,000 of them are of children. That makes March’s figure for child migrant apprehensions the highest monthly total ever recorded in the entire history of the United States.

The Washington Post produced a useful chart depicting these numbers and how they compare to figures from the past. A gargantuan spike is clearly evident from even the most cursory glance at the graph, indicating that the Biden administration’s repeated insistence that the situation at the border is not much different than it has been in the past is not true.

The chart and the new statistics also give the lie to the similar claims of so-called “fact-checkers.”

In a recent press conference, Texas Governor Greg Abbot has said that, “The Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services separately received tips that allege child abuse and neglect at the federal government’s Child and Migrant facility at the Freeman Colosseum in San Antonio behind me.”

Abbott added that, “These problems are a by-product of President Biden’s open border policies and the lack of planning for the fallout from those disastrous policies.”

Vice President Kamala Harris has been put in charge of handling this situation at the border, but she has yet to make any comments about the CBP’s new statistics, nor is she scheduled to visit the border this week. If the past is any indication, she would simply laugh at the suggestion of visiting the border again and try to sweep the whole issue — and her and Biden’s direct responsibility for it — under the rug.
