It has by now become a tedious refrain that government officials all over the country seem to live by the mantra “Rules for thee but not for me.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom sends his kids to expensive private schools after shutting down schooling in California, and he dined at fancy restaurants after preventing people from going out to eat. Nancy Pelosi went to a hair salon without a mask despite screeching every day about the importance of mask-wearing. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s husband tried to use the fact that he was married to the governor to get away with riding his boat during COVID lockdowns.

All of these people are shameless hypocrites who are drunk on their own power.

And as it turns out, when it comes to shameless hypocrisy, Gretchen Whitmer’s office is the gift that keeps on giving.

Whitmer’s Officials Flout Her Own Travel Restrictions

According to reports from Fox News, two of Whitmer’s top officials traveled to other states recently, even though Whitmer herself has encouraged Michiganders not to travel to other states because she believes doing so might contribute to the spread of COVID.

The officials in question were Whitmer’s Director of the Department of Health and Human Services Elizabeth Hertel and Whitmer’s chief operating officer, Tricia Foster. Pictures surfaced of Hertel at a swanky resort in Alabama last week, while Foster posted pictures of herself visiting Florida.

What makes this even more galling and insulting is that Whitmer specifically singled out Florida for criticism because the state does not have mask mandates.

It should be noted, however, that despite not mandating mask-wearing and no longer being locked down, Florida is not experiencing any spikes in COVID cases, hospitalizations or deaths.

It seems that even the very political officials who’ve imposed lockdown tyranny across the country desire to breathe the sweet air of freedom. The problem is that they have the ability to do so while many others do not. They impose rules and restrictions, browbeat anyone who doesn’t heed them and then flout their own rules themselves.

And then, if that wasn’t outrageous enough, Whitmer decided to double down when questioned about this incident. She proceeded to insult the intelligence of people everywhere by insisting that, “We never had any travel restrictions in Michigan, and I’ve just encouraged people that if they travel to be safe, mask up, get vaccinated.”

Then came the most insulting line of all: “We all need to show one another a bit of grace,” Whitmer said. This hardly needs to be asked, but was Whitmer showing grace to Marlena Pavlos-Hackney when she had her arrested and had her business license suspended for running a pizzeria?

Our Decadent Elites and Their God Complexes

The Romans had their own version of “Rules for thee but not for me.” It went, “Quod licet Jovi non licet bovi:” What is permitted to Jove is not permitted to a cow.

The political elite think they are gods and that you are cattle.

Remember that.
