Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk was the host of Saturday Night Live on May 8. Musk’s appearance went largely as planned, but something he did sent blue checkmarks on Twitter into a tailspin of rage.

It was something so subtle that most ordinary people probably didn’t notice it and wouldn’t consider it worthy of notice: he flashed an “OK” hand sign.

In response to this, Daisy Barringer, a freelance writer and editor who is verified on Twitter, said that she hoped Musk would burn to death inside of a Telsa.

Why this crazed paroxysm of anger? Because Barringer, like many on the left, thinks that the “OK” hand sign is a secret white supremacist symbol.

Left-Wing Twitter Explodes Over Nothing

Barringer said the following on Twitter when she saw Musk’s hand gesture. As you read the following, bear in mind that it was all written by an adult:

“Wait. Whaaaaaaaaa…did Elon Musk just…like…aggressively flash the white power sign during the Weekend Update? Please tell me I’m insane. Please. No, really. Going to need you to tell me I’m insane.”

We can all ensure Barringer that she is indeed quite insane. But she continues:

“Listen, usually when I say I hope someone dies in a fire, I’m being hyperbolic. But, like, Teslas do burn for four hours straight, so like…I’m not going to be mad about it. I kept watching because I really hoped one of the cast members was going to walk to the front of the stage at the closing and lunch him out.”

Lunacy like this really speaks for itself.

The final layer of absurdity to top off this entire story is that the “OK” hand sign is not even a white supremacist symbol. The claim that it is is nothing but a figment of the left’s fervid imagination.

In fact, this idea started as a joke on an imageboard website called 4chan. Users on a 4chan board called /pol/ — set aside for political discussions — decided to one day begin spreading the rumor that the “OK” hand sign was a white supremacist symbol. All those who were involved in spreading this idea knew that it was false but wanted to find out whether they could seed it into the minds of leftists as ja oke. To them, this would serve to prove that contemporary leftists are totally irrational and see everything — even completely innocuous hand gestures — as racist.

Unfortunately, the idea took on a life of its own and worked too well. Now, the meme has become reality, and the left believes it to be true.

This whole notion started out as a way to fool the left and work them up into a frenzy over nothing — and that is precisely what Elon Musk himself deliberately did when he flashed the “OK” sign on SNL.
