According to a UK Times article recently written by Bill Gates biographer, James Wallace, the tech-billionaire-turned-philanthropist-and-vaccine-manufacturer has long lived a double life.

Most people who’ve seen Bill Gates know that he cuts an unassuming figure: sporting a plain haircut and often dressed in bland sweaters and geeky glasses, the man certainly doesn’t appear to fit the profile of a wild or eccentric billionaire.

But according to Wallace, appearances can certainly be deceiving.

Bill Gates may have worked hard to get to where he is, but it seems that he parties hard as well. Beneath a carefully crafted public image, there was a Bill Gates who regularly held naked pool parties, who flirted with journalists and who even apparently hobnobbed with convicted pedophile and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Plus, he did all of this while married to his now ex-wife Melinda.

Hard Partying Nerd

As Wallace points out, to cultivate the straight-laced and even somewhat boring image of himself that the public is familiar with, Gates would feed journalists special insider information about new tech products that Microsoft was set to release.

In exchange for the insider information, journalists were expected to stay mum about Gates’ crazy private life —about the wild bachelor parties that he regularly threw in his Seattle home or about how he would “visit one of Seattle’s all-nude nightclubs and hire dancers to come to his home and swim naked with his friends in his indoor pool.”

Especially secret were Bill Gates’ many extramarital affairs. Melinda Gates was aware that these things were going on — both before and during their marriage — and appears to have silently endured them until she could do so no longer. In one especially odd arrangement, Bill made Melinda agree to allow him to see Ann Winblad — one of his ex-girlfriends — for one weekend a year, unsupervised, at Winblad’s North Carolina home.

As Wallace puts it, Melinda Gates was “well aware of Gates’s womanizing and consequently the relationship ran hot and cold. At one point they broke up for nearly a year, reportedly because Gates refused to make any kind of commitment.”

Gates is also known as an extremely profligate and conspicuous spender. Once, he paid to have sand from St. Lucia transported so that he could use to build his own private beach. He’s also known to have spent $30 million in one go to buy paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and Winslow Homer.

With all of these salacious details now emerging about Gates’ private life, the man is sure to become an even more polarizing figure than he has already been for many years.
