Giuliani Set to Challenge Andrew Cuomo for Governorship
It will be a battle of the Andrews when New Yorkers head to the polls in 2022 to elect their governor. Andrew Giuliani announced Tuesday his plans to challenge current New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Who Is Andrew Giuliani?
Giuliani is the son of former New York City Mayor and Donald Trump confidante Rudy Giuliani. The 35-year-old claims that he has politics in his DNA, giving him the confidence to make a run at the highest office in the state of New York.
Giuliani most recently served for four years as an aide to former President Trump. At the same time, his father was working as Trump’s personal lawyer.
Cuomo’s Fall from Grace
Just last year, Cuomo was enjoying his time in the spotlight as his state grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic. Some political experts were even positioning him as a future presidential candidate in 2024. However, it has been a long and hard fall from grace for Cuomo in recent months.
The most recent nursing home scandal has led even a great number of Democratic leaders to question if Cuomo will be able to win another term in office. Giuliani put the blame on Cuomo for killing 9,000 seniors who lived in nursing homes in New York. Cuomo attempted to cover up the deaths in an effort to boost his own political stature.
According to The New York Post, Rudy is supportive of his son’s run at the office. In fact, some of Rudy’s most trusted advisers have volunteered their time to help the campaign. This includes both Jake Menges and Helen Powers McBride.
