Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros has donated $1 million to a racial justice organization that seeks to defund the police and “dismantling the systems that unjustly harm black people.”

The organisation, known as the Color of Change PAC, received the generous donation on May 14th, according to the Federal Election Commission, and has described itself as the country’s “largest online racial justice organization.”

The organization has repeatedly campaigned for the slashing of police budgets after the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in the summer of 2020.

Who are they?

The Color of Change PAC, which is believed to have around 7 million members signed up, launched multiple online petitions in order to cut budgets made available for police departments across the country, in the wake of the high profile killing of George Floyd in 2020, which sparked the re-emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The petitions launched online claimed that police do not keep people safe and that they do not help communities thrive.

They stated that “police budgets are bloated at the expense of our safety” and that they need to be cut and reinvested back into local communities.

The petition also stated that the organization is seeking to “diverge from and dismantle the systems that unjustly harm black people.”

The PAC took part in numerous Black Lives Matter protests up and down the country, spreading their message and calling for proper investments in community centers, schools, parks, mental health services, jobs, and affordable housing for all.

Soros’ donation

Billionaire George Soros has been known to support and donate to numerous Democrat organizations and candidates, as well as donating to organizations that routinely call for the slashing of police budgets.

Soros’ donation to the Color of Change PAC was his largest donation of the year, pledging his support to the cause of defunding the police.

Last February, Soros donated $2 million to the campaign of Los Angeles District Attorney candidate George Gascon, in which he announced that he would be altering the city’s law enforcement strategy if he took office.

Soros has also funded numerous other Democrat candidates such as Rachel Rollins, Kim Foxx, Kim Gardner, and Larry Krasner.

Rollins became the first woman to ever be elected to serve as the District Attorney in Suffolk County, as well as becoming the first-ever woman of color to be elected as a District Attorney in the state of Massachusetts.

Soros, who founded the Soros Management Fund, is believed to have a staggering wealth of $8.6 billion.
