Norwegian MP Petter Eide has taken it upon himself to nominate the controversial “civil rights group”, Black Lives Matter, for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for their work in raising the issue of racial inequality across the world, not just in America.

However, Eide, a supporter of the group, does not recognize the damage that Black Lives Matter has caused up and down the United States.

Why they should have been nominated?

Eide nominated the group as he believes that “Black Lives Matter has become a very important worldwide movement to fight racial injustice. They have had a tremendous achievement in raising global awareness and consciousness about racial injustice”.

In this instance, Eide is correct.

The Black Lives Matter movement remained a constant talking point throughout the second half of 2020, after the death of George Floyd in May 2020.

They remained so constant that thousands of people were willing to risk catching Covid-19 and bringing it home to their loved ones just so they could attend a BLM protest to show their solidarity.

For the most part, the BLM protests were peaceful and effective in the message they were trying to present to the world, speaking out against racial violence and police brutality, a very noble message.

Eide believes that BLM is a deserved winner of the Nobel Peace Prize as they didn’t just stick to issues in the United States, they expanded across the globe to focus on the separate racial issues that each country faced.

However, behind this noble cause is an ugly outcome.

Why they shouldn’t have been nominated?

In the last year, Black Lives Matter has been known to cause outbreaks of violence at their protests, which a vast majority of mainstream media outlets in the US refused to report accurately.

The criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize is simple; peace.

However, one of the signature chants of the BLM rejects this concept: “No justice, no peace”, as the group incited violence at a drastic rate.

Throughout the summer and into the new year, BLM has received a vast amount of criticism for their endorsement of political violence, with many people parroting the belief that violence is necessary.

However, there are some truly disturbing numbers.

The BLM movement was revived once again in May 2020 after George Floyd’s death at the hands of the police.

Since this event, there have been a mass number of protests throughout the US; resulting in the deaths of at least 25 civilians and police officers.

As the violence grew more common, so did the injuries and property damage. Over 400 law enforcement officials are believed to have been injured and assaulted whilst trying to contain the violence.

As of September 17th, 2020, the property damage caused by BLM is estimated to be just at the $2billion mark.

Black Lives Matter are not a group that inspires peace, as matter of fact 60% of US voters believe that the BLM has worsened race relations in the United States, yet no political figures want to condemn their actions, which begs an answer to a very simple question - why is that?
