As Democratic elites move in to put the squeeze on the country through an endless labyrinth of restrictions and mandates justified on the pretext of combatting COVID-19, some states and their governors are finally taking a heroic stand for normalcy. One of these is Florida and its governor, Ron DeSantis.

On Thursday, March 18, DeSantis announced that Floridians would not be required to provide proof that they had been vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to attend large public events in the state.

Florida Nullifies COVID Passports

This announcement comes as other states — most notably New York — are beginning to roll out experimental COVID passport programs. In New York, people wishing to attend sporting events or concerts at the Barclays Center or at Madison Square Garden have been required to download apps that would track their medical information and provide verification that they had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Governor DeSantis and many other Floridians understandably consider this to be creepy and Orwellian and will be having none of it.

“I just want to make clear that in Florida, we are not doing any vaccine passports,” said DeSantis. “All those experts said that it was a bad idea. I think it’s a bad idea, and so that will not happen.”

He added that “folks should get vaccinated, if they want to” but that he will allow Floridians to make personal decisions on that score.

“If you want to go to an event, go to an event. If you don’t, don’t. But to be requiring people to provide all this proof, that’s not how you get society back to normal,” DeSantis declared.

On March 18, DeSantis also attended a meeting with prominent doctors and medical researchers like Dr. Sunetra Gupta of Oxford, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford and Dr. Martin Kulldorff of Harvard Medical School. These researchers in particular have been prominent voices against the lockdown policies pursued in many states and in countries around the world. They have referred to such policies as ineffective and needlessly economically and socially destructive, urging instead that those most vulnerable to COVID-19 be protected while everyone else be allowed to live as normal and develop natural immunity.

DeSantis also realized that people are already hesitant about receiving COVID-19 vaccines, having heard many stories about disastrous — even fatal — side effects being wrought on some otherwise healthy people who got them. Introducing vaccine passports would only make people more skeptical and mistrustful of the government.
