Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is certain in his belief that the deadly COVID-19 virus came from a Wuhan lab. The secretary of state under former President Donald Trump told Fox News that he is confident that the Chinese Communist Party covered up the lab leak.

Pompeo’s Accusations

Pompeo has good reason to believe that the virus was man-made in a Chinese lab. He said that the U.S. government under the direction of Trump attempted to get more information about the virus from China after the first domestic case was confirmed in Washington state on January 20, 2020.

However, according to Pompeo, the “Chinese Communist Party had gone completely dark.” He said that the government would not take phone calls or answer questions, making it difficult to figure out how to manage the unfolding crisis.

Because of this, Pompeo believes that Chinese officials knew that there was a problem, and they were trying to cover it up.

Republican Response

Current Republican leaders are still pressing forward to determine the origins of the virus. Just last week, GOP members of the House Intelligence Committee asserted that there was significant evidence pointing to the belief that COVID-19 initially came from a leak at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology. Republican Rep. Devin Nunes is continuing to lead a GOP effort to get to the bottom of the origin of the deadly virus that has sent the world into chaos over the last year.

CDC Stance

At a recent Senate hearing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky acknowledged the possibility that the virus could have emerged from a lab. Walensky said that while most of these types of viruses come from animal origins, there are certainly additional possibilities.
