The mainstream media in the United States were preoccupied with seeking to portray Donald Trump as a “racist”, while at the same failed to report on the likely Chinese lab origin of the COVID-19 virus, Trump’s former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell said in a live interview.

Speaking on Jim Acosta’s “CNN Newsroom” over the weekend, Grenell reminded that the US intelligence communities actually issued a joint statement on the COVID-19 pandemic’s origins already back in April 2020.

He said that even back then, the intelligence community was convinced that the coronavirus originated either from an animal-to-human transmission or from the lab in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

We knew it months ago!

At that period, Grenell, the first openly gay person to serve at a Cabinet-level post, was the acting Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration.

Back in April 2020, the US intelligence services concluded the statement by vowing to carry out a rigorous examination of new information and intelligence to determine with certainty which one of the two scenarios had led to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Grenell emphasized, however, that for a year now the media had been ignoring the second part of the intelligence community statement, namely, the scenario in which the coronavirus originated at a Wuhan Institute of Virology lab.

Thus, during most of 2020, the mainstream media have dismissed any theories of the COVID-19 starting in a Chinese lab as conspiracies, as being “baseless”, or as racially motivated attacks on China to distract from what had been portrayed as Trump’s failed response to the pandemic.

Turned tables!

Such media outlets are currently attempting to present the Wuhan lab theory as credible all of a sudden, arguing that there is “new” intelligence emerging!

Grenell sought to explicitly disprove such claims, wishing “to be clear” that no new intelligence information had been released which might add to or contradict the last statement on COVID-19 origins issued by the US intelligence community back in April 2020.

“Nothing has changed” since then, the former acting DNI said, countering the media for ignoring the story in question for a full year during which they considered the lab leak hypothesis a racist attack on China.

Grenell defended the use of the term “Chinese”, as in “the Chinese virus” phrase used numerous times by President Donald Trump, stating it was not racist but referred to geographic origin in the same way as “German measles” or “African flu.”

Leaving aside other potentially controversial wording by Trump such as “Kung Flu”, Grenell sought to emphasize solely the media’s abject failure to report on the Wuhan lab leak possibility regardless of the April 2020 statement by the US intelligence community.

He noted the political establishment in Washington, DC for the most part also fully ignored that document.

When asked if China might become forthcoming about how COVID-19 originated, Grenell, who is a former spokesman to the UN, pointed out that Beijing had been infiltrating the top echelons of UN agencies since George W. Bush administration, if not earlier.

Thus, the former acting DNI stated his conviction that the World Health Organization would only do what China’s ruling Communist Party might want it to do.
