On August 10, 2021, Dr. Andrew Fauci told MSNBC that mandates should be passed to force teachers to get the vaccine. He added that he did not see that happening federal level but urged states and local districts to require it. According to White House records, about 90% of school teachers have already received the vaccine.
AFT Head Supports Teacher Vaccination Mandate
American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten says that for everyone to feel safe in the workplace, vaccinations should be a voluntary choice and not coerced. Her organization, the second-largest teacher union in the country, will meet within seven days to discuss if they support Dr. Fauci’s recommendation for a mandate. She says that it weighs very heavily on her that children under 12 cannot be vaccinated.
Universities and Colleges
Dr. Fauci also urged universities and colleges to make it part of the requirements to attend classes. Then, Fauci said he knew that mandating the vaccine would upset people who like their individual freedom. He added that he thought the situation was so serious now that he felt mandates should be done.
Anyone Responsible for Other Lives
Dr. Fauci went on to tell other sources that he felt that anyone responsible for the lives of others should be required to get the mandate. He said he included doctors, like himself, who saw patients in that group.
Fauci on FDA Approval
Dr. Fauci continued by saying that the public should consider the vaccine to be approved by the FDA. He said there was no doubt that approval would happen. Therefore, people should stop using that as an excuse not to take the vaccine.
