Big Tech strikes again, Twitter in particular.

After the tech wide ban of Donald Trump, the inconsistencies of social media platforms remain laughable.

Twitter and Facebook stated that permanently removing President Trump’s accounts was to protect people and stop the ever-growing incitement of violence.

However, Twitter was perfectly fine and happy to allow the disgusting phrase ‘Hang Mike Pence’ to remain on the trending page, culminating in over 14,000 tweets after Twitter purged a large majority of Conservative users on the site on Friday.

Consistency remains to be the big fault of big tech

On Friday, Twitter conducted a mass purge of what they said was to ensure ‘the integrity of the conversation on Twitter” in a statement released shortly after the purge took place.

“As part of our work to protect the integrity of the conversation on Twitter, we regularly challenge accounts to confirm account details such as email and phone number. Until the accounts confirm additional account information, they are in a locked state and do not count towards follower counts.”

However, the vast majority of accounts that were removed were US conservatives accounts, including Michael Flynn and Sidney Powell’s accounts.

Twitter’s response

Twitter justified the removal of the President’s account in this purge by saying; “After a close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Many conservatives felt hard done by, having noticed the drop in their followers, and rightly so, given the awful consistency that Twitter surrounds itself in.

The tech giants deemed a series of Donald Trump’s tweets to have been ‘inciting further violence’, however, Twitter only applies this policy when they like to flex their muscles.

The account of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei still remains active, even after he has tweeted multiple times calling for the destruction of Israel.

His latest known tweet on the issue, which was posted in 2018, stated; “Our stance against Israel is the same stance we have always taken. #Israel is a malignant cancerous tumor in the West Asian region that has to be removed and eradicated: it is possible and it will happen.”

“Israel is a malignant cancerous tumor” is not hate-speech

According to Twitter, given the fact that the tweet is still on the site and the account remains active, this is not an incitement of violence, yet President Trump’s account is too dangerous to be active.

The real reason why Twitter and the rest of the big tech companies decided to silence Donald Trump was, as already stated, flexing muscles.

Twitter doesn’t care about users.

If they did, accounts like Khamenei’s would have been terminated a long time ago and phrases like ‘Hang Mike Pence’ wouldn’t be allowed to trend.

Twitter’s selective use of their own policies shows that they simply do not care, and by silencing the current leader of the free world, they wanted the rest of the world to know what kind of power they have.

‘They’re not after me, they’re after you, I’m just in the way.’
