Ranking America’s Worst Mayors

With the year 2020 coming to an end, it is time to examine what mayors did the worst jobs leading their communities during this challenging time in history. All five of these worst mayors in the U.S. list identify with the Democratic party.

1. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan

The mayor of the Emerald City lands on the list after a disastrous summer that led to the creation of the autonomous zone known first as CHOP and then the CHAZ (Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone) right in the middle of downtown Seattle. What was once a peaceful sanctuary for the Black Lives Matter movement quickly became a place of violence and unrest with Durkan doing little to stop it.

2. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo

Mayor Liccardo was not in danger of making this list until he told his community to not gather with family for the holidays and then did so himself on Thanksgiving.

3. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock

Hancock landed on the list after defying his own stay-at-home orders and traveling to visit family in Mississippi. It did not take long for the media to seize on this hypocrisy and call him out for his actions.

4. Austin Mayor Steve Adler

The mayor of Austin also fell under the same criticism as Hancock after posting on social media from his vacation home in Mexico. This earns him a spot on our America’s worst mayors list.

5. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio

The mayor of the Big Apple was routinely criticized for his handling of the pandemic as well as the racial protests that plagued the city. He also came under fire for ruining the economy of the city as he tried to control the pandemic.
