When Republican Representative from Maryland Andy Harris set off the metal detectors outside the House chamber because he had a gun on his person, AOC — never known for having a reasonable reaction to anything — absolutely flipped out.

Eek! A Gun!

When Rep. Harris attempted to walk into the House chamber, a policeman saw a gun on his person. Since guns are not allowed on the House floor, the gun was taken from him, and he was never allowed to enter the floor while armed. When he stepped onto the House floor, Harris no longer had a gun.

Representatives are allowed to store guns in their personal Congressional offices and to carry them around in the rotunda and other parts of the Capitol Building that are open to the public. Since Rep. Harris has a legal gun permit, he did nothing illegal by showing up to the Capitol with the gun.

Furthermore, Harris carries the gun because he and his family have been threatened by someone who has been released awaiting trial. He probably forgot that he was armed and didn’t store the gun in his office.

But despite all of this, here was AOC’s reaction. She said, “We still don’t yet feel safe around other members of Congress. One just tried to bring a gun on the floor of the House today… I don’t care what they say their intentions are. I care what the impact of their actions are, and the impact is to put 435 members of Congress in danger.”

In short, she seems to be insinuating that Rep. Harris was attempting to kill Congress people. This is crazy.

The Reason for This Lunacy

Why did AOC have such a crazed reaction to Rep. Harris having a gun on his person? It’s easy to chalk up the reaction to cynical grandstanding, but some think there’s something deeper at play.

The Democrats are the party of the elite. Even though Establishment Republicans are formally a part of this clique, they are only allowed to be so provided that they stay within the bounds of opinion dictated to them by Democrats.

As the party of the elite, the Democrats naturally view the peasants with contempt. The peasants are the middle- and working-class Americans whom the establishment GOP pretends to represent. They are, in short, Donald Trump’s base, and they love their guns.

Since the elite has nothing but contempt for the peasants, it naturally assumes that the peasants must hate and resent the elite in return. If the peasants have guns and hate the elite, the reasoning goes then that they would use their guns on the elite if they ever got the chance.

That’s how Democrats like AOC think. They think that Trump’s base consists of retrograde hicks. They want to destroy said retrograde hicks and believe that the retrograde hicks want to destroy them in return.

Hence, AOC’s fear of Republicans with guns. It’s all projection.
