It is hard to know what is going through the head of Kevin McCarthy these days. The Republican Minority Leader of the House of Representatives met with former President Donald Trump this week at Mar-a-Lago just days after he said that Trump “bears responsibility” for the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Trump Supporters Deny Blame in Riots

Supporters of the former president say that Trump does not have culpability in the riots because he only encouraged a peaceful march to the Capitol. In addition, the riots began before Trump had finished his speech, showing that he was not involved in this alleged instigation.

Topic of Discussion Between Trump and McCarthy

It is not yet clear what McCarthy and Trump talked about during their Thursday meeting at the former president’s home in Florida. While the two put out a joint statement, the details of the discussion were slim.

Trump’s statement vowed that he would continue to help his party leading into the 2022 midterm election. McCarthy’s statement confirmed that he met with Trump while praising his party for listening to Americans.

In the statement, the representative from California reminded the GOP that the House Republicans paired with the Trump administration had much success after listening to the thoughts and concerns of all Americans. Because of this approach, the House was able to beat all expectation and pick up seats in the 2020 election.

He also used his statement to point out that Democrats are simply using their agenda to further divide the country.

The pair even released a picture of them standing together at the resort, further raising questions about why McCarthy criticized Trump last week.
