Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has come under criticism yet again for her blatant hypocrisy. The Democrat from California was breaking her own rules when she was caught evading the metal detectors that she insisted all House members pass through on their way into the chamber.

New Rules

It was Pelosi herself who pushed for the House to pass a new rule mandating that members go through a metal detector before entering the floor of the House. The rule was put in place after many of Pelosi’s own party said that they were worried about fellow colleagues trying to bring weapons onto the floor. Pelosi began to level fines when some House members went around the metal detectors by entering from a different place.

For example, Rep. Louie Gohmert was fined a whopping $5,000 for leaving the floor to visit the restroom but not returning through the metal detectors.

Pelosi Found Guilty

However, Pelosi herself did the same thing as Gohmert when she evaded the detectors by passing through the special entrance. Rep. Dan Crenshaw was quick to call out Pelosi for breaking her own rules, insisting in a tweet that she pay the fine herself.

Rep. Rodney Davis was the first to witness Pelosi skirting the detectors. David reported the incident to Capitol Police. However, the officers never took action against Pelosi.

Hypocrisy Abounds Within the Party

Pelosi is not the first Democrat to be caught up in the hypocrisy. Throughout the era of COVID-19, many Democratic politicians have been caught breaking their own lockdown rules, including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Austin Mayor Steve Adler, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
