Democrats Block Amendment That Bans Illegals From Receiving Key Benefits

House Democrats serving on the Committee on Education and Labor blocked two key budget amendments that would have prevented illegal aliens from being awarded COBRA benefits as part of the proposed $1.9 trillion stimulus package.

Amendment Proposed by Fulcher to Prevent Illegals From Receiving Taxpayer-Funded Benefits

The Democrats blocked an amendment proposed by Republican Rep. Russ Fulcher of Idaho. Fulcher proposed that illegals would not be eligible to receive the planned COBRA benefits expansion. This benefit offers an 85% premium reduction for those people enrolled in the COBRA health plan program. The plan would reimburse employers for the additional cost through the use of the payroll credit.

Fulcher argued that citizenship comes with both privileges and costs. Because the illegals do not pay into the tax system, they should not be allowed to take out of the health care system benefits. However, the Democrats swiftly knocked this down by blocking the amendment.

Also Blocked a Prohibition of Funding for Ties With China

In addition to blocking the amendment to ban illegals from receiving COBRA benefits, House Democrats also prevented the passage of an important amendment brought forth by Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik. This amendment would have banned academic institutions from receiving money if they partner with any organization owned or controlled by the Chinese government or organized under the rules of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

This amendment was brought by Stefanik after President Joe Biden allegedly canceled a plan instituted by the administration of former President Donald Trump designed to monitor the influence of the CCP through the infiltration of the U.S. education system.
