New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been facing enormous amounts of pressure and vitriolic criticism of late.

As more and more shameful and disgraceful facts continue to emerge about how his administration deliberately covered up the truth about his state’s true COVID-related nursing home death toll, Cuomo has scrambled to deflect blame, make excuses for himself and do anything possible to maintain respectability.

However, things are only getting worse for him. Now, it appears that the FBI and the DOJ have opened investigations into what really happened.

Cuomo’s Cavalcade of Lies

On March 25, 2020, Cuomo issued an order demanding that New York nursing homes admit COVID-positive patients—even though the elderly are among those at the highest risk of death from COVID-19. Thousands died as a result of this decision, and Cuomo has been lying about it ever since.

No one can deny that he has lied about it anymore. According to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ report on the matter, Cuomo likely understated COVID deaths in nursing homes by as much as 50%. He did this principally by equivocating about what counted as a “nursing home death.” If a nursing home patient got sick with COVID, was taken to a hospital and died in the hospital, Cuomo chose to count this as a hospital death and not a nursing home death.

When this is taken into account, the true COVID death toll in nursing homes rises to as high as 13,000. According to Cuomo’s own Health Commissioner, Howard Zucker, it may be over 15,000.

Well, Biden’s FBI and DOJ have finally decided to launch investigations into all of this.

Better Late Than Never

The irony here is that a DOJ or an FBI investigation is precisely what Cuomo feared most. According to one of Cuomo’s secretaries, Melissa DeRosa, the administration deliberately withheld accurate statistics about COVID-caused nursing home deaths in New York, even from Democratic lawmakers, because it feared that revealing the information would have caused former President Donald Trump to have ordered investigations into what happened.

This cynical and sickening action appears to have been deliberately taken because Cuomo specifically feared what Trump might do to him.

Now that DeRosa has admitted this to a group of Democratic politicians on a conference call, many are in uproar and are refusing to believe Cuomo’s attempts to excuse his administration’s behavior.

There should have been a federal investigation into this fiasco long ago. How strange that only now when Trump is no longer in office is it being contemplated.

Better late than never.
