The sheer pettiness and childishness of Democrats is a sight to behold. No amount of stupidity is too much for them to perpetrate if they consider doing so necessary in order to hurt Donald Trump.
These people truly seem to be incapable of feeling embarrassed.
Despite ordering New Yorkers to stay in their homes and treating virtually all of them like rats for what now seems like an eternity, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio still isn’t done.
Why? Because Trump is involved.
Apparently, if the Trump Organization manages a few ice skating rinks, then no one may be allowed to skate on them — even now, after all of the soul-crushing nonsense that New Yorkers have endured.
After all, if a few people are allowed to have some fun at places tenuously associated with Trump’s name, that might cause them to have some vaguely positive feelings about the man — and that must never be allowed.
So says Bill de Blasio.
Kids Can’t Skate
The Trump Organization currently manages two ice rinks in Central Park: Lasker Rink and the iconic Wollman Rink. The management contracts were originally set to expire in April, but De Blasio — out of nothing but sheer spite — made moves to try and oust Trump by February 26.
Then, because De Blasio and his entourage are all deeply mature and serious people, they tried to brag about it. A spokesman of De Blasio’s, no doubt under the delusion that he was being delightfully clever, said that “Trump has been impeached from operating the ice rink” when the move was announced.
They tried to keep an ice rink closed and prevent Trump from running it a whole six weeks before his management contract was set to expire anyway. What heroes they are!
Outrage Provokes a Reversal
Of course, normal people — because they are not utterly insane — just want to live their lives. If being able to skate at an ice rink for a bit gives people a taste of the normality they enjoyed before COVID technocrats robbed them of it, they will be grateful for the opportunity to enjoy that ice rink, and they won’t care if Trump happens to run it.
Forgetting this — or probably not caring — De Blasio plowed on ahead anyway. Fortunately, he provoked enough public outrage to induce him to back off.
“New York City kids deserve all the time on the ice they can get this year,” said annoyed City Hall Press Secretary Bill Neidhardt. “The Wollman and Lasker rinks will stay open under current management for the few weeks left in this season.”
