The pseudo-intellectual insanity known as critical race theory appears to have claimed yet another victim at one of the liberal arts colleges where it is so lamentably rampant.

Jodi Shaw, a former residential life coordinator at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., resigned from her job on Feb. 19 due to her claims that the dominant ideological and cultural environment at the college fostered a “racially hostile environment.”

Shaw’s Resignation

Shaw, who is white, penned a letter to Smith College President Kathleen McCartney in which she described a series of events, stretching back years, where she alleges that she was deliberately harassed, demeaned and discriminated against on account of her race. But because Shaw is white, this was deemed acceptable.

One such incident involved her not being allowed to give a library orientation presentation because it made use of rap music. She also describes how she “endured meetings in which another staff member banged his fist on the table, chanting, ‘Rich, white women! Rich, white women!’ in reference to Smith alumnae.”

The “last straw,” she says, occurred when she and her colleagues were to attend a retreat focused on racial issues. She was asked to speak about her own race during a meeting but declined to do so, probably out of fear that she would be attacked for daring to defend herself for being white. This refusal was interpreted as a symptom of so-called “white fragility,” and Shaw was attacked for it. She was accused, utterly groundlessly, of not only merely pretending to be distressed but actually making a “power play.”

Shaw’s letter was originally written in January 2020. It was obtained by former New York Times writer Bari Weiss, who was also fired from her job due to her distaste for critical race theory.

The Truth About Critical Race Theory

Critical race theory is nothing but an anti-white racial revenge narrative disguised as a legitimate form of intellectual inquiry. It’s meant to blame white people for everything bad that ever happens to non-white people and to leave them racked with guilt for things they never did. Conversely, it’s also meant to inflame racial hostility against whites by non-whites and convince non-whites that whites are the source of all of their problems.

Unless this is resisted and unless its targets — white people — refuse to accept the way that it frames history and social interaction, these attacks will never stop, no matter how white people abase themselves.

We should be grateful to Jodi Shaw for refusing to be a part of this charade.
