Liz Cheney is one of the avatars of a corrupt and insane GOP establishment that needs to resign but that sadly refuses to.
Though she has long been an established Never Trumper, salivating at every conceivable opportunity to stab the former president in the back, her personal antipathy toward Trump is far from the only way in which she is out of step with his base.
She has some utterly psychotic foreign policy views to boot.
Liz Cheney: Neocon Imperialist
Speaking about her foreign policy views on February 22, Cheney criticized Trump’s “America First” stance on that issue by saying, “These ideas are just as dangerous today as when they were in 1940, when isolationists launched the America First movement to appease Hitler and prevent America from aiding Britain in the fight against the Nazis.”
This is utterly childish and a deliberate falsification of history. For one thing, Trump was hardly an “isolationist” in foreign policy. Though he blessedly didn’t start any new wars, he was happy to continue the horrendous war in Yemen, which has been an appalling human rights disaster and which virtually everyone in the mainstream media stayed totally silent about. He also did quite a bit of saber-rattling against Russia, though he was no doubt pushed to do so by media and Democratic lies that he was a “Russian puppet.”
Secondly, the America First Committee was formed in 1939 to keep America out of disastrous and pointless wars that didn’t serve the national interest.
It saw that American entry into World War I was agitated by a small group of Anglophile elites and that the war did nothing for ordinary Americans but get droves of them killed. In the growing hysteria about entering another European war, the America First Committee did not wish to repeat that mistake.
There was nothing in the movement about aiding Nazis. In fact, Sinclair Lewis, the American writer, was a prominent member of the committee and famously despised Hitler.
Like Father, Like Daughter
However, no one should really be surprised to see Liz Cheney enunciate such views. After all, her father is the arch war criminal Dick Cheney, one of the masterminds behind what may go down in history as the single greatest lie of the entire 21st century: that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Liz Cheney inherited her odious foreign policy views from her father. Like him, she is a bloodthirsty imperialist to the very core of her being. The both of them have spent their entire careers marinating in the same post-World War II bipartisan foreign policy establishment, and so nothing else can really be expected of them.
Bloated propaganda about new Hitlers around the corner should not fool anyone. These are the rationalizations that power-mad lunatics use to extend their power. Never forget that ISIS became a problem precisely because of American intervention in Iraq.
And that’s how it’s always been: The consequences of one war create the propaganda for the next.
Like father, like daughter.
