Texas and Mississippi have decided that they have had enough of the overhyped and damaging COVID hysteria. The governors of these two states have recently announced that they would be ending all mask mandates in their states and fully reopening them.

Unsurprisingly, creepy authoritarians like Joe Biden were not pleased. Biden referred to such decisions as “neanderthal thinking.”

It’s encouraging, therefore, to see more and more states finally beginning to rise up against this kind of crazed and tone-deaf imperiousness.

The latest of these has been Montana governor Greg Gianforte, and he has decided to do it in an especially clever way. He decided to expose Biden’s hypocrisy and naked lust for power by simply throwing his own words back at him.

Gianforte Fires Back

When learning about Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to reopen his state and repeal all mask mandates, Biden said, “The last thing, the last thing we need is neanderthal thinking that in the meantime everything’s fine, take off your mask.”

In a March 3rd tweet responding to Fox News’ report about these comments, Gianforte said, “If making data-driven decisions to reopen, loving freedom and trying to get back to normal is what a Neanderthal would do, then well, I guess you can count me as one.”

In that statement, Gianforte alludes to a very important point. For all of its caterwauling about “listening to the science,” the left is extraordinarily selective about which science and data it listens to.

Countless analyses have already shown that there is no correlation between mask mandates and COVID case totals, nor is there a correlation between the strength and severity of lockdowns and either COVID cases, hospitalizations, or deaths.

Across all kinds of states that instituted very different policies, the virus followed more-or-less the same sort of course. At best, the lockdowns were useless. They did not meaningfully help people. They only enabled further centralization of political power.

To the elite and their lackeys in the media, “good science” is whatever justifies their drives for power. Legitimate science that doesn’t do that is either ignored or baselessly ridiculed.

These people are all frauds. For them, science is not a tool for the dispassionate analysis of reality. It is a tool for the legitimization of political power.

It’s comforting to see governors like Gianforte finally coming around to that realization, even if they’re doing it rather late in the game.
