Charles Schumer, the Democrat’s Senate Majority Leader, has made countless social media users resentful as he chose to keep quiet when radical leftist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ranted on how the problem with a rampant violent crime would be resolved by canceling the construction of new prisons!

Far-left Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), or AOC, as she is known, was engaging in one of her regular senseless tirades of claiming how violent criminals would be “deterred” if they found out no more new jails are under construction.

In her typical, mind-boggling style, AOC was lashing out on how the number of prison inmates in the United States could only be reduced by putting a stop to the construction of new correctional facilities.

Not only stupid, but also a dangerous idea!

Instead of building prisons, AOC insisted the nation should be building hospitals, hiring community organizers, providing mental care and better health care in general, improving employment, and so on.

In her words, such policies would achieve the goal of supporting the communities, instead of throwing them away.

Throughout that highly controversial tirade, Senate Majority Leader Schumer remained so passive that his silence quickly caught the attention of numerous Twitter users, with some wondering what he was doing there, and others stating that he was apparently playing to AOC’s tune.

Radical leftist Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks come against the backdrop of NYPD’s announcement last month which showed that crime skyrocketed in April 2021 compared to April 2020.

NYC’s overall index crime rose by 30.4% year-on-year, with a 66% spike in grand larceny, and a 35.6% spike in felony assault.

Robbery grew by 28.6% while shooting incidents went up from 56% in April 2020 to 149%, an increase by a whopping 66%!

Stop buying scales if you want to lose weight

At the same time, AOC bragged about alleged success in reducing violence in her community (Bronx).

She said that a program called SUV (Stand Up to Violence) managed to cut the reoccurrence of violence such as shootings and stabbings by more than half.

While Schumer’s passivity got denounced on social media, a number of political commentators slammed AOC’s proposal for resolving violent crime by terminating jail construction.

Zaid Jilani, a progressive writer, explained on Twitter how putting an end to new prison facility projects was “inhumane” considering how outdated and overcrowded the existing ones are.

He added that whatever measures might be undertaken, there is just no way to see a significant drop in inmate numbers overnight.

David Harsanyi, a senior writer for the National Review, mocked AOC by stating that he was no longer buying scales since that would be the only proper way to lose weight.
