Everyone wishes that Senator Chuck Grassley, who has already won seven terms in the United States Senate, would make up his mind if he plans to seek an eighth term. If he decides not to do so, then this seat may turn Republican, which would be bad news for the Democrats who would like to control the Senate.
Grassley raised $625,000 in the second quarter and has over $2.5 million in reserve. Therefore, the finances are there to seek another term if the 87-year-old lawmaker would like it. While Iowa has long been a divided state, Donald Trump won the last two elections.
The senator has filed a statement of candidacy.
June polling by the Des Moines Register says that only 33% of likely voters say that they would vote for Grassley if he decides to run again. The poll shows that 37% of Democratic likely voters say they are ready for someone new while 67% of independent and Republican voters say they are ready.
Grassley Releases Statement on Abby Finkenaue
Another sign that Grassley may jump into the race is a statement released by his office that Democrat Abby Finkenauer is too radical for Iowa voters. Abby served as a United States House of Representatives member from 2019 to 2021 before losing to Ashley Hinson by a very close margin.
If Grassley decides not to run, many would like to take his place. Among them may be his own grandson Pat Grassley, who is currently the speaker of the Iowa House.
Regardless of which side of the aisle politicians sit on, they all wish that Senator Chuck Grassley would make up his mind and announce it publicly.
