Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Democrat, Nancy Pelosi has demanded a criminal probe to be launched against her fellow Republican colleague, Paul Gosar, who tweeted out a video from his official government account, before sharing the clip on his personal Twitter account.
The video, created in a cartoon meme format, depicted Gosar battling against President Joe Biden and Democrat Rep, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with Gosar’s head mapped on top of a popular ‘Attack on Titan’ character.
However, Pelosi and other Democrats have accused the Republican Rep of threatening the President with an ‘act of violence.’
Pelosi tweeted her disgust to her millions of followers on Twitter, after The Washington Post ran the headline story of Rep. Gosar tweeting an animated video of him “killing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and swinging two swords at President Biden.”
Pelosi opened her tweet by condemning the “threats of violence against Members of Congress and the President of the United States,” before calling for the Republican Minority Leader of the House, Kevin McCarthy, to join her and her fellow Democrats in condemning the actions of Gosar and his “horrific video.”
She finalized her short tweet by calling for the introduction of a criminal investigation against Gosar, as well as an investigation led by the House Ethics Committee.
Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got whiff of the supposedly offensive animated meme, and took to Twitter to express her disgust.
She accused Gosar of being a white supremacist, before labeling him as a “collection of wet toothpicks.”
Other members of the Democratic side of the House took to Twitter to express their feelings over the controversial issue.
Other members include Ted Lieu and Cori Bush, who labeled Gosar as a “white supremacist clown,” as well as fellow Republican Adam Kinzinger, who called for the GOP to “condemn the video.”
The reaction of the Democrats comes after the party has attempted numerous times to make it illegal for people to mock their leaders.
NBC News played a part, stating that carving the so-called “anti-Biden’ phrase,”Let’s Go Brandon,” on any part of a firearm could be considered a direct threat to the President.
