Ben Shapiro Roasts Kamala Harris Over Her Video Describing Hanukkah

In a cringeworthy answer to the question “what does Hanukkah mean to you?” and in a prerecorded video, Kamala Harris and her ethnically Jewish husband Doug Emhoff first describe Hanukkah as being about light. Then, they try to make it about rededication to serve those around them before making it about joy.

Ben Shapiro pulls apart the video for Harris’ lack of thought beforehand about the meaning of Hanukkah. He says that Harris had never put any thought into the importance of the holiday, even when she knew that she would record a message that would go worldwide.

Difference Between Religion and Paganism

Shapiro, who is married to a Jewish woman born in Israel, explains that Hanukkah is the celebration of the retaking of the Temple by the Maccabees. While the oil that should have lasted one day lasted eight, that is not the point behind celebrating this holiday. Shapiro admits that the holiday has become highly watered down in American culture. According to the political commentator, America has made the holiday about the difference between religion and paganism.

Harris Makes Hanukkah About Social Justice

Ben is also highly offended that Harris would suggest that the holiday has anything to do with social justice. Instead, he points out that the holiday is not as Harris suggests about tikkun olam, or social repair. Shapiro says that trying to bring social justice into Hanukkah is like trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole.

Shapiro says that Harris’ description more accurately describes Earth Day than the sacred holiday. The commentator also points out that the holiday is about rededication to God instead of dedication to killing babies and other causes that Harris supports.
